Architectural Photography for Skyline Plastering | California Architectural Photographer

At the beginning of December yes last year, I was hired by Chicago construction company “Skyline Plastering Inc” to photograph their projects. I know its not the first time I have mentioned this but I still want to say “I do love to travel” and when I combine two things travel+photography I really enjoy it. It was a privilege to do some photography outside of my day to day area and even though I am California Architectural Photographer this opportunity I could not pass on.

Skyline Plastering company contacted me in November asking to photograph few projects for them to document their work throughout Chicago and surrounding areas. The projects which were requested from them to photograph are one or two over all photos and few close-up/detail shots yet in the end I photographed 14 projects in 3 days. This is a lot since the projects were not in one location, lots of driving was required (which took big chunk of time of the day), plus weather was a factor since in Chicago and surrounding areas are affected by fog at that time of the year. In the end the company was satisfied with the final images and here are some final photos:

Phil & Mary’s Wedding by Denver Wedding Photographer

Even so that we are now in 2016 I still wanted to write a blog about a wedding that happened last year and even though I am Denver Wedding Photographer which the wedding wasn’t in Denver but it’s not far from Denver so it should count.

Denver Wedding Photographer

Phil and Mary found me through online sources, and after that everything took off. They are a great couple which I really enjoyed photograph for. Sometimes a question that pops up through people that I know and also clients ask me: Do you filter through your clients for weddings? The simple answer is yes I do. Now with that said it doesn’t mean I turn every couple down but it does mean that if I see that the couple is not “compatable with me” I honestly don’t photograph for them. By the way this applies to everything portraits and weddings. But this is something which I will talk about in some other blog.

For now I want to talk about Phil and Mary and their wonderful wedding. The wedding took place at Meadows at Marshdale in Evergreen, CO and I want to say that I have never photographed at this location but loved it. The couple chose a great place for their romantic wedding. They have put a lot of effort and work to customize the venue to their wedding. Having two different places for the ceremony and reception was a great idea and the venue place does offer that to any couple. Phil and Mary’s ceremony was great, short and very entertaining especially thanks to their pastor and also want to mention the band which was playing all the music throughout the ceremony.

The reception was also fantastic, and fun. I am sure that when Phil and Mary will be looking back at their wedding they will be happy, and knowing it was memorable.

Re-Cap For Real Estate | Denver Real Estate Photographer

I might not be the most famous real estate photographer in Denver, since I know that there are other major and small time photographers that do the samething (I mean real estate photography), but wanted to see how many jobs I have done last year and where. So for the year of 2015 I have photographed over 190 homes just here in Denver area alone. The map below with all the red dots is where I have photographed (almost) each home, now the reason why I said almost is because Denver real estate photography is hard to pinpoint since some listings where so close to each other that the dots just overlapped multiple times. Also I had to narrow down to the size of the map to some degree of 30 mile radius, since I did have jobs all the way from Fort Collins to Breckenridge and all they way down past Colorado Springs.

First Time For Me in Architectural Photography

There are times when I do experiment in architectural photography, everything from: new equipment, style of photography, post editing, and other technics. Yet for this project which I was hired to photograph architecture I have never done in the past. Before I get in all the details, I would like to mention Andrew Batson and his company Brass Key Property Brokers. I have photographed for Andrew who is incredibly wonderful person and I enjoy working for him every time he hires me to photograph his beautiful homes. But sort of recently I had a project from him to do architectural photography or more like twilight photos of three custom homes which he build. Now you can say “what’s so difficult about photography twilight photos of three homes?”, well all three homes were done in one evening. I have done in the past two photos in one evening but it was during summer hours where twilight time is a bit longer, so I would have more time to photograph. This project was done in mid-October and this was a challenge for me. Since we had a good agreement with Andrew about this project of what could be done or not, and other crucial details we went forward with this assignment. Honestly because of Andrews flexibility on this project I was eager to do this. Well in the end all three homes were photographed but would I do it again? My answer would yes and no: yes if it’s the right time of the year and no because of how much is involved in architectural photography for twilight photos, but it’s not worth it since the quality of the photos goes down. But take a look at the final photos below and I have listed them in the order which they were photographed.

I would also wanted to mention big Thank You to Andrew for pedaling a pedal boat. The reason is: he asked me to photograph one home for him, from a small island in the middle of a lake, to capture the lake and the back of the home. Yet it was impossible to take a speedboat and park it next to the island without damaging the boat so the pedal boat was needed to get close to the island. But here is the final image:

Fuji X-T1 Review by Shutter Avenue Photography

So now that I had my Fuji X-T1 with XF 10-24mm F4 IOS lens I can finally say something good and bad about it. But first off all just like good review of anything I will start with good part(s) about the camera and the lens.Fuji X-T1 and Fuji XF 10-24mm F4 IOS Review

Fuji X-T1 the good stuff:

I LOVE THIS CAMERA!!!! Sorry had to get it out of my system. By this time I photographed everything with it from Architecture, Interior Design, Real Estate to Portraits, Weddings and so on. It’s a bit smaller from a regular DSLR camera like Nikon D300 but it’s light weight. I love it that is light because when I was photographing my first wedding I didn’t even get tired from having two X-T1s’ on me. They are light, and fast. What I mean is: I would just have one on left side and one on right side of me and also so that I would not kill the battery so quickly (since I don’t have battery grip) I would turn it off and then when I needed to turn it on and it’s fast to do the job.

Fuji X-T1 and Fuji XF 10-24mm F4 IOS Review

The ISO on this camera is amazing and because of dynamic range option they have it is great. The image quality even with high ISO is just wow. Shooting photos at a wedding in dark rooms was a piece of cake. I didn’t have to worry that ISO will overwhelm the photos and I will need to do lots of post production to correct this issue.

Fuji X-T1 and Fuji XF 10-24mm F4 IOS Review

Now for Architectural photography, it’s even better. I love it that I can customize the white balance on this camera (meaning not only select the K value but also customize even that value if I want more or less blue, yellow, green and red). By this time some of you will say “Just shoot RAW”, well I could but if I can get it out of the camera right why waste hard drive space. Yet for interior design or specific architectural project I will shoot in RAW but for real estate photography, not even once.

The features of the camera lets me customize to my likings of how it should photograph to even specific buttons to do what I need them to do. Also the adjustable-tilt screen is fun to have. There are times in portrait or wedding photography where this is very beneficial. For real estate, architecture, interior photography not really since I use my iPad to photograph.

Fuji X-T1 not so good stuff:

Battery, battery, battery. They need to do something about this, I have no words to explain how the battery’s life is only good for short period of time (up to 300-500 photos if turning it on and off but is the camera is on all the time then maybe 3-4 hours before the batter starts to die).

Wi-Fi mode – good but only for short distances. I found out from out in the field testing I can get range from 50 feet to 200 feet depending if I am inside or outside the building. This is a good time to talk about Fuji X-T1 remote app. Its very hard to say lots of good stuff about it because it need major update. The app is slow sometimes, and you get only 25% of options while photographing from full potential of the camera. The best way I found out to use it is make sure that the camera is fully set to the setting you need then connect the app.

Fuji XF 10-24mm F4 IOS lens:

Love this lens! Its sharp all around, almost no bowing effect at the edges, and its fast. Now this is a good portrait lens for wide angle but not the best. This lens is best for architectural style of photography. I have been using this lens for the past few months and from every other lens which I have used in the past (in the same aspect ratio) this is far by the best lens. I don’t know if I have anything bad to say about this lens.

Well this concludes my short review of Fuji X-T1 with XF 10-24mm F4 IOS lens hope to get more lenses and maybe update my review some time later next year.
