Its very interesting how things work, because at the beginning of this year I was contact by Kenya to photograph her upcoming wedding. Here’s a little bit of a background of why I said what I just said. I know Kenya from a long time ago, about 3 years ago I have photographed Kenya for her profile pictures at UC Davis Campus, and honestly I haven’t heard from here ever since. But when she has contacted me regarding her wedding I was surprised not because she is getting married but that she contacted me after all these years.

That’s just a little bit of a background of how I know Kenya, but I wanted to talk about Alexander and Kenya wedding. I loved their wedding. It was simple and very different from everyday wedding. Yes it had similar patterns of a typical wedding but it also had lots of surprises and easy going. I don’t know if I could put my finger on what what my favorite part of the wedding was because there was mamba dances, fire dances, and Alexander and Kenya was great couple to photograph. Last month I was contacted by a wonderful person whom I have worked in the past and currently for many photography projects; requesting to do some some children portrait photography of her son. John is a wonderful child whom I had a pleasure of photographing very energetic, curious, and most of all loves to be photographed. His hair was the reason of why I was contacted because the mother wanted to cut it yet she really loves his curls and wanted a memory of the hair while John was at this age of life. Now I will say that I don’t really do lots of children photography, I don’t know why really but maybe because I am afraid (and this is coming from my heart) to mess up the photos. Don’t get me wrong, I know how to photograph portraits yet to me children portrait photography is a completely different ballpark from wedding photography or even business portraits. But knowing John and his mom made things very easy for me, we just meet up at a park early in the morning (it’s summer in Sacramento and VERY HOT during the day) to start the photoshoot. The time when by fast, just like John while running around everywhere =) I love it. Anyways check out some of the the photos below and let me know via facebook what you think: are they good or should I just stick to more grown-up portrait photos.

Side note: I have changed the name of the child for safety reason so yes the kids’ name is not John.

At the end of Spring I had an opportunity to photograph for a interior design company here in Sacramento. It was a great project of photographing kitchen area and living room space. I have connected with the Stellar Renovations by just reaching out to them and after they have looked at my portfolio they hired to be their Sacramento Interior Design Photographer. I really liked this project because it’s not often that the kitchen area looks this good after remodel, and Stellar Renovations did a great job at it. Also I did photograph a small bathroom which they have redesigned completely as well. So here are some photos from that photo shoot.

Just like the title says, this was a first Sacramento real estate job I have photographed for Kevin Watts the real estate agent. Yet why am I writing blog about it? Well thanks for asking, because in Sacramento metro area especially in real estate photography it’s very common to photograph a home that is occupied by the seller. So the furniture will be moved around by the agent to make the home look good yet for this home a interior designer came and brought all the furniture to make sure the home looks very good.  Yes the home is in very good neighborhood and with a big price tag so its very common for interior designer to do this but in reality lots of agent don’t do this. Why you may ask? I think every agent is different and I am not in a position to say who is right and who is wrong, my job here in sacramento is “real estate photography” and to photograph each project as it was presented to me (to make it look good). Now with that said I think some agents don’t realize that making home presentable in every way possible will give it more value to the home, which adds profit to the seller and the agent. But that’s just me saying it.

So when I came in, it was great to see this home staged because it made my job much easier to do as well. So here are the photos of a home which was ready properly to be sold on the market.

By the way I do want to say thing: NONE OF THESE PHOTOS ARE HDR! YES you heard me right, they are all hand crafted. That’s a big difference between professional photographer from lazy photographer that doesn’t know what to do and just solly relies on camera and software. Could I have done even better than this? YES! but because of time crunch and because real estate photography is so different from architectural photography I have to put a cap onto it or I will be spending way too much time on every single home.

In the month of May, I was given an opportunity to photograph for a company Howell Construction which is located in Denver and even though I’m Sacramento architectural photographer I just could pass up this great opportunity. I think I want to mention this, I do have architectural degree with over 5 years of working in architectural firm but one thing that drove me nuts is sitting behind the desk all those days. So this rubs off even on my business today, I love to be out and about. So travel is part of me, it refreshes me, and even if I go out to the mountains to shoot it just makes me so happy.

Coming back to this journey to Denver, I was given two projects to be photographed in one day. (Facebook Post Here) Now I do want to mention that its a LOT of work of photographing such big projects in one day, yet as always I took it as a challenge (I think its the architect in me). Now living in Sacramento and being architectural photographer I have to realize that I will need to travel and one place I do like to travel is Denver. Yes I have lived in Denver in the past so atleast I know the city and it’s very easy for me to get around.

The two projects which I photographed where “Envision Healthcare” and “Wazee Electric”, both are opposite from each other in architectural photography. One is more office look the other is industrial warehouse. One project I could walk around by myself and photograph anything that seems good to me and the other project I had to be supervised that I would not photograph anything that is not permissible by Wazee company (since there are tons of equipment which is copyrighted to certain companies).  But here are the photos from that shoot and I do have to say I loved both of them.

I do want to say thank you to Howell Construction for hiring me to photograph these two great projects and I wish I could show more photos but some photos are not allowed to be released.
