This is going to be short post or maybe not. Anyways, last week when photographing family session my camera Nikon D300 autofocus broke. Of Course I’m use to photographing with manual focus but there are times when manual focus just doesn’t cut it. For example when photographing a wedding there is no time to do manually focus especially during ceremony, cake cutting, or even first dance. Well I had to say goodbye for short period of time to my camera while it’s being repaired (and professionally cleaned) at Nikon facility but in the mean time rented a camera.

The camera that I have rented is Nikon D600 as you can see in the image above. I know this camera is about 3 years old and maybe in photography world it’s like 10 years old but I still wanted to try it since its full-frame camera. Now do I like it? Not really, the autofocus is sloppy (it pans in and out A LOT) it seems like it needs ALWAYS a good contract to focus, the buttons are small and the placement of them is just weird. It just doesn’t feel right while holding it. Now you might say who cares, you got used to your Nikon D300 and that is it. But I tell you I have played with many cameras and rented few for some time and this camera (Nikon D600) is on the bottom of my list now. Yes it does have good features such as: good handling of ISO, quieter shutter noise, the big round dial on the top left side is well thought through, and of course it’s full frame.

So in the end I will not feel guilty for departing with it soon, and I will still be looking into a camera that I really want to spent my money to upgrade. Maybe it will happen soon so check on back this blog post and see what happens.

It’s been some time since I wrote any blog posts but it’s been incredibly busy for me lately. Yet few weeks ago I had this engagement session not far from Denver in Roxborough State Park. I love this location for not only the variety of locations to photograph with different backgrounds but also because in few locations it looks like Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs (without driving to Colorado Springs).

I have meet Evan and Jordan for very brief moment and they liked my photography, so eventually they wanted me to photograph their engagement session. What a great couple, they were easy going, fun to be around, and they have great personalities. I enjoyed photographing them (untill park ranger kicked us out) but as my own personal opinion I think the photos are great. Well take a look for yourselves.

Now since I have been doing a lot of Denver Real Estate photography it inspire me to branch out and follow my real passion. Although I do enjoy real estate photography for many reason such as helping real estate agents with better quality photos for their clients, also gives me experience of seeing lots of homes for myself, and last it applies my skills that I have incurred as a graduate of architectural school. But my passion is still in architecture, which branches to interior design. I always had some kind of a dream of doing something in that field but honestly I suck at it. No really. Thats why photographing for interior designers makes my blood boil with happiness, and even though I don’t have skills in interior design I get to experience the great work that goes into it and learn more and more about it by photographing it.

These series of photos where taken for TruDesign company, and I would like to say I really enjoy working with Cynthia and Lindi. They are great at what they do, even though I only had few jobs with them but looking at their portfolio it is clear that they are pros at it. But that’s where I come in, I am trying to help them to document their projects so that they can stand from the rest of the competition, and provide them with better quality of photos. I would like to say they are Denver interior designers but in honesty they are in Lafayette which is in between Boulder and Denver so not that far.

Well what else can I say I really like their work and here is some of the photos that I have photographer for them.

Just before we moved into winter, and the cold weather stopped or slow down everything in photography I had an opportunity to photograph this family (sorry no names for privacy). Yes I do know them and they are very good friends of mine so it made it easier for them and for me to photograph.

But honestly, family photography is very special to me, because its very different from weddings or portrait photography (oh wait it still considers portrait photography). Yet family photography does involves kids and making sure everything runs smoothly. Not that I am saying kids are bad, don’t forget I do have almost three year old daughter my self, but with kids its different to photograph then lets say couples. Kids always want to move, make faces, and have very short span of attention. But what I think, thats what make is great. Even with this family I got plenty of photos were the boy moves so much and makes faces that at one point it was pure fun to photograph (even though knowing that the photo will not be that great but the parents will love it). That is the point of family photography, its not just “come here, sit here, smile and we are done” its all about memories. As a photographer I have to understand what make each family unique, and try to capture that in the photo. Yes, you could go to “global studio” where you will get x amount of photos but all photos will be the same, because those studios don’t have time to spend on negatives they strive to produce only similar result every time to have a profit only case.

But back to this family, by knowing them ahead of time I really enjoyed photographing them and the final result does speak for itself. Why am I trying to convince you look for yourself at the photos below.

Now that’s 2015 its time to talk about the wedding trends and what to expect. I will say that its just my opinions but it seems like in the word of internet this is what everyone is talking about. So here we go.

Colors: In the past year of 2014 I have seen lots of bright pop colors, like bright pink, greens, blues, and reds. But in this year the prediction is that we will start seeing more of pastels colors. Even though lots of brides love bright pink color it will be more toned down and have more of a subtle look to it. Like I said it will have more of pastels than bright.

Wedding Dress: Put it simply it will be more off the shoulder gowns. After following the runways of bridal shows it seems like the strapless dresses are not the popular anymore but also the church traditional look of the dresses are also not in the style for this year. This has not been a popular look for quite awhile now, but the way it was presented during fashion week was very classic and clean, sometimes with a whimsical look.

Ceremony: Now talking about traditional, the ceremony seems like will be getting shorter and shorter. Even to the point of where ceremony will be just a big party in some words. After photographing many wedding in the past year I have noticed that the ceremonies are getting shorter to a point of where its just for 10 to 15 mins long, and right after that is the party. So it will not be a surprise to see the ceremonies completely infused with the wedding day that guest will not even be able to tell if it was ceremony or not.

Rustic: This is not really new but I think it will pick up even more this year. Having mason jars, burlap, lace and custom (hand written) posters on a black board or on glass seems to pick up more and more in trend. Lots of venues now hire professionals that can create this look for the couples. Having rustic chairs with unique table is another way to get away from regular round tables.

Entrances: It used to be that at the beginning of the reception, the newly married couple, their wedding party and parents would be introduced by the emcee before going into the first dance of the evening. Now, couples are opting to either only introduce themselves or going all out with a major entrance and choreographed dance. We are seeing couples work with choreographers to surprise their guests right at the start of their reception. While this was always seen at Sweet 16s and Mitzvahs, brides and grooms are bringing this trend to their own big day. Don’t be surprised if at the next wedding you attend, a full out dance starts as the entire party is introduced.

So don’t get surprised when you go to the wedding next time to see lots of changes not only to the schedule of the wedding but also to the themes and the style from the traditional wedding.
