WTC? Sacramento Real Estate Photography

As always during this time of year I have been busy with lots of Sacramento Real Estate Photography shoots and one thing keeps popping up. This does not apply to all the homes but just a handful homes, although it always amazes me when this does happen.

I come into the home and do what I do best, provide with great professional real estate photography of any type of a home. And when the shoot is done the homeowners ask me “So what do you think of my home? Will it sell for the price we are asking?” and this usually happens when the agent is not there. Now as I have written about this in previous post (see here), I am not a real estate agent and I don’t want to say anything which will make the sale for agents harder because of my words to the seller. Although every owner that is trying to sell a home will face with one major decision which is: home improvements. Every client wants top dollar for their home and I do understand that, although some improvements should be considered and some should be left for the buyer to do.

But this post is about how some sellers modify their homes with VERY interesting colors to suit their preference for living in the home but do not understanding that those colors can hurt the sale afterwards. I have few sample photos below; some photos are of real homes which were reshoot due to bad choice of color and could not sell or took much longer to sell because of that. Also some images are computer illustrations to show the original home and what it could have looked liked if the seller would have repainted the home. One thing I do want to mention is that computer enhanced photos were a very quick edit so they are not perfect but does show the point.

By the way I do know that it does cost to repaint and everyone always thinks with a budget when selling the home and how much they should invest prior to updating the home. In my personal opinion as a photographer this is one area where it would be so beneficial to the seller (depending on the price point and the state of the home). So, see images below, which can prove my point of how crucial it is to have the home in proper colors. But the main thing to take away from this blog post would be: talk to your agent if you should repaint prior to selling the home because your agent knows what the market for your home is and how to help you sell it. That goes for all improvements to the home not just re-painting but this post is about the interior wall color.

In the end, it is upto the seller to make this decision to repaint or not to do it. Although as I have mentioned earlier, as my personal opinion having neutral interior wall colors makes it so much easier for the sale of the home. And on the photography side, the home looks always brighter, more open and inviting.

Custom Home Builders for Sacramento Architectural Photography

Recently I have been contacting few home builders to let them know that I can provide them with great sacramento architectural photography just for our area. There are tons of custom home builders, as well as “cookie cutter” home builders in our area but honestly most of their photos are just ok. So to provide them with better photos, marketing on my end was needed. Yet this blog post is not about marketing but more about sacramento architectural photography for home builders because when talking with them about 65% of them say “I think we need to stage a home” prior to the shoot. Yes staging the home with beautiful furniture is a good thing but in the past I have photographed homes with zero funiture. Now the main reason was that most of my clients in home building area are privately owned companies so as soon as the home is done someone moves in. Some times there is just no time to get everything ready to look like model home, yet I don’t think that there is anything wrong with that, meaning to photograph empty home. What I wanted to show in this post are few home which were empty but the photos are still good looking.

These next two images of the same home is a great example of how selecting different time of the day can play a big role in the final look of the home.

I like Interior Design Photography

Interior Design Photography by Shutter Avenue Photography

Yes I know its a cheesy headline but honestly I do like interior design photography. I have been doing this for some time and learning from the pros is so much fun. Here’s a home which I had a chance to photograph in Colorado for TruDesign company. They did a great job of re-designing the living room, dining room and laundry room. This is a past project which I have done a while ago but going through my photos I have found it and I really liked so yes I have decided to write a small blog about it. Because interior design photography is so different from real estate photography or even architectural photography, it’s always such a pleasure to photograph it. One thing I do want to mention is that the coffee table in the living room is a concrete slab which was VERY heavy to move but very cool looking. But anyways take a look at more photos below from this really neat home.

Interior Design Photography and Updated Home Office

Here’s a short blog post about interior design photography and a very interesting home office which was updated by very creative interior design company TrueDesign which are located in Colorado.

Interior Design Photography by Shutter Avenue Photography

When I came in into the home I was interested in the space which the designers were talking about and after walking in into the home office I knew exactly what was going on. The ceiling in the home office goes from one end of 10 feet high to a 4 feet high so it was very interesting space to photograph. I think this is the reason why I like to do interior design photography because the designers take odd spaces and can create such wonderful living spaces. So take a look at the photos below to see what I have captured in that interesting space of the home office.

Disney Cartoons & How Is That Related To Photography?

So something has been on my mind lately after my oldest daughter got into the whole Disney princesses. I try not to be helicopter parent but honestly I don’t want my daughter to see something which is not appropriate especially in the behavior in those cartoons. But this post is not about that it’s more to do with arts of it. Me and wife decided to watch every Disney princess cartoon to see what is acceptable and what is not (by the way if you read original stories such as Brothers Grim you will see how much different it is from Disney). So after spending hours and hours of watching all of them I have noticed something interesting. The first three princess “Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora” is so much different comparing to renaissance era and modern era princess in the style of cartoons.

This is what I mean: the first three cartoons were hand drawn and so as some others in renaissance era but the details of the drawings were much more than let’s say Aladdin cartoon. Why is that? Well after doing some research I have found out that the crew who hand-drew to make well detailed cartoon of Aurora was by 50% more than Aladin, so the cost was to produce it was much greater. Disney after that never did it again and went to simplicity of standard drawing and lots of copy/past to save on production fees. And this made me think, was it worth it? All of the modern day cartoons of today not only princess but as well as others are done by computers which is fine but the art of detail was lost. Yes I know it would take more time, cost, computer processing and other factors to create such detailed cartoons but still why? Why do we feel so lazy towards something that not only we see but also kids. We teach kids that money is more important than art. Make it simple, make lots of money from it, and that is life. But maybe that is a different conversation for later time.

On the other hand if we watch something like “Spirited Away”, “Howl’s Moving Castle” by Hayao Miyazaki (which honestly in my opinion would beat any Disney cartoon hands down) are so gorgeous in not only details of hand drawings but also in storyline and what it teaches kids. Hayao Miyazaki believes that hand-drawings have the person’s soul in them when CGI just doesn’t and I honestly do agree with him. He takes time to create his cartoons and yes there is also a budget, timeline of delivery but his works are not stamped out like other cartoons. Each cartoon is so different from each other with so much beauty in art.

Now why would I bring this up? Because I see so many people pick up a camera and they think “it’s like a computer it will do everything it needs to do for me”. While a CGI cartoon character is programed to do things it needs to do yet it’s just a code nothing more and nothing less. Photography is the same, camera is just a camera and it does what it was programed to do. I do love film photography because you as a photographer needs to be thinking through every step to make sure to get a right photo. In my profession it’s not easy to just do it all in film so yes I do use digital but I do not rely on the camera to do my job. I don’t let it tell me what to do I make that choice and that’s what set a part an ameture photographer from proffesional photographer. I make sure to notice the details of what I am photographing, as well as to know what are the limitations of the camera and the lens. I am in charge not the camera to produce high quality and well detailed photos. That is also why I take time after photo shoot to do lots of post production. As one photographer said “An ameture photographer just photographs but professional photographer crafts the images” I like that quote and I don’t remember which famous photographer said it but it is true.

Its the details that matter, if we become so lazy we will miss out on the greater things of learning and seeing. That’s why I think the new cartoons are good but not as good as it was regarding art. There is just no life in them and it’s hard to appreciate them.
